Highlights can now automatically OCR documents:

  • Smart OCR: Use Live Text to copy uncopyable text from any PDF document and automatically embed it as OCR. This way non-searchable PDFs will become searchable as you search and text inside images will become text as soon as you try to select it. All processing is done on device in the background without you having to initiate it. Smart!

Smart OCR requires macOS 13 Ventura or later and works with English, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Ukrainian text on hardware that supports Live Text.
